Mercenaries Lament is a tactical RPG set in a fantasy world filled with despair and hope, battles take place on detailed quarter-view maps, where terrain height and character positioning—front, back, or side—play a huge role in deciding the outcome. 

Smart positioning and teamwork unlock strategic possibilities with allies’ support effects adding another layer of depth, you can also customize your characters by acquiring skills, leveling up and switching classes with skill points earned in battle.

When heroine Amalie joins your party, the Advent Soul mechanic comes into play. As you fill the gauge, you can stock up to 9 BP, which lets characters enter “Advent mode.” In this state, they unleash powerful coordinated attacks with allies, called Advent Attacks, and can perform game-changing Soul Exceed skills. 

These moves range from devastating enemies to healing allies, but once used, Advent mode ends, so timing is key to victory. Throughout the game, players can also collect 13 mysterious Orbs scattered across the world which serve as accessories with hidden powers. 

Their true purpose remains a mystery but gathering them all could unlock something big. Other than that the story follows Johann, captain of the Silver Wolf Mercenary Company who narrowly escapes death after a chilling encounter with the Grim Reaper who leaves him with an ominous prophecy: In 100 days, your luck will run out.

Soon after, Johann meets Amalie a young woman with miraculous powers to cure a zombie-spawning disease that plagues the kingdom. Together they embark on a journey to heal the infected but as the days pass, Johann must grapple with his own fate and the prophecy hanging over him.
